How it all starts…

Your Comprehensive Evaluation
You will meet with Dr. Gopal who will conduct an interview.  After the interview, a physical examination evaluating the pelvic floor will be performed.   Upon completion of the history and physical, your doctor will describe pertinent findings and answers questions that you may have.
Urogynecology Exam
Following your initial evalutation at The Center For Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, further testing may be required. Below are some of the tests, therapies and surgeries that we perform.
Further Testing, Therapies and Surgical Procedures

Urodynamic Evalution

This is a bladder behavior test that allows your doctors to get a better understanding of your lower uriany tract symptoms and identify the type of urinary incontinence you may be experiencing. This procedure involves placing a small cathetar in the bladder and is performed in the office.

Cystoscopy / Urethroscopy

This is a very brief procedure that allows your doctors to look inside the bladder and urethra using a small camera.  By doing so, various bladder abnormalities can be identified that may be the cause of lower urinary tract symptoms (urgency, frequency, hematuria).


A common procedure used to evaluate the organs in the pelvis (bladder, uterus, ovaries, urethra) and lower urinary tract.   It is used to identify to masses or abnormal collections in the pelvis and kidneys.

Anal Manometry

A small probe in placed in the rectum to evaluate the strength of the anal sphincter and perineal muscles.

Magentic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

A imaging device that uses a powerful magnet to stimulate tissues in the pelvis. A signal is produced that is analyzed by a computer and a 3-Dimensional image is produced. The MRI can used to examine defects in the pelvic floor, bladder and urethra.
