FOR THE TREATMENT OF PELVIC ORGAN PROLAPSE
Prolapse occurs when pelvic structures, like the bladder or rectum, bulge or protrude into the vaginal wall. Bladder prolapse is sometimes referred to as cystocele. Rectal prolapse is referred to as rectocele. Sometimes, pelvic organ prolapse is described as a hernia into the vaginal wall. As many as 36 million women suffer from prolapse.
Anterior and Apical Prolapse Repair System
This system is a minimally invasive trans-vaginal comprehensive solution that treats pelvic organ prolapse. It utilizes self-fixating tips that allow for safe, simple and precise mesh placement in the sacrospinous ligament through a single vaginal incision designed to minimize tissue trauma and potentially provide for a shorter recovery period for the patient. This is an innovative treatment for bladder prolapse (cystocele) repair. Cystocele occurs when the wall between the bladder and the vagina weakens, causing the bladder to drop into the vagina. This system is a less invasive surgical procedure that allows a surgeon to position a supportive mesh (a graft) that is designed to provide support where the bladder herniates into the vaginal wall. Dr. Gopal offers both synethic mesh and biologic materials for prolapse repairs. Synthetic mesh had demonstrated higher efficacy in clinical trials. However, biologic materials offer less risk. These minimally invasive techniques allow correction without removing the uterus. Dr. Gopal believes in uterine conservation where appropriate. YOU DO NOT ALWAYS NEED A HYSTERECTOMY.View Clinical Brochure
The posterior system is a comprehensive, minimally invasive treatment designed to restore normal anatomy after vaginal vault prolapse or a rectocele. Vaginal vault prolapse occurs when the upper portion of the vagina (the apex) descends into the vaginal canal or outside the vagina. A rectocele is the prolapse of the rectum into the vaginal wall. During the procedure, a surgical mesh or biologic material is placed in your body and is designed to restore the vaginal apex to a more normal position. Sometimes, women have more than one organ prolapse at a time. The system comes with graft materials that allow for repair of intestinal bulges (enterocele) and rectal bulges (rectocele) during the same procedure, if necessary.
FOR THE TREATMENT OF INCONTINENCE
Urinary incontinence is the medical term used to describe the condition of not being able to control the flow of urine from your body. An estimated 51million women cope with urinary incontinence. Some are unable to prevent leaking urine when they cough, sneeze or exercise. Others experience a strong urge to urinate but are unable to make it to the bathroom in time. Below are some of the surgical procedures performed by The Center for Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery to remedy female urinary incontinence.
Mid-Urethral Sling System
These treatment options are for patients suffering from stress urinary incontinence. These procedures, all minimally-invasive and some requiring only one incision, place a “sling” to support the urethra during times of increased abdominal pressure (such as coughing, sneezing and laughing) to prevent accidental urine leakage. Most patients experience immediate continence directly after the procedure.View Clinical Brochure
Sacral Neuromodulation Therapy for the treatment of Urge Incontinence
Interstim® Therapy is a treatment for urge urinary incontinence that uses electrical pulses to stimulate nerves in order to decrease symptoms of urgency, frequency, and urge incontinence. Interstim® or commonly known as the bladder pacemaker, helps women with an overactive bladder that have not responded to medications and behavioral therapy. The procedure also helps women resolve urinary retention. There is an in office test that can be done to determine if the therapy would likely work for you.Read more about Interstim®
