ANGIE K., 51
I'm 51 and had had stress incontinence and a prolapsed uterus since I had my second child 14 years ago, a condition that has gotten worse over the years. At my last appointment, my new OB/GYN told me that since this interfered with my day-to-day life, I should consider seeing a urogynecologist and highly recommended Dr. Manish Gopal, whom she has previously worked with. I made an appointment not knowing what to expect. His staff was helpful and when I first met him I became impressed with him–he answered all my questions and addressed my concerns. He made me feel at ease during the exam, explaining my condition and my treatment options. Upon leaving I felt comfortable having Dr. Gopal perform my surgery via the da Vinci Surgical System. As opposed to traditional surgery for hysterectomy and uterine prolapse, this would provide quicker, less painful recovery with only a few tiny incisions. On the day of the surgery, while his staff was getting ready, I remember Dr. Gopal holding my hand. After awakening, he explained that the surgery went perfectly as planned and what I should expect in the next few days and going forward. He made sure the hospital staff followed his instructions and did not order my release until I was well enough to be discharged. After a few weeks I started going to physical therapy and have had regular follow-ups with Dr. Gopal where he has been pleased with my progress.

Today was my first visit with Dr. Gopal since my surgery. He asked me how I was and I answered fine, “but most of all I am thankful everyday for finding him.”
I’d had ongoing problems over 10 years that I had been treated for and consulted doctor’s in this field but never felt I wanted to commit to having surgery, even though it had been suggested early on. I had seen a video presentation by Dr. Gopal on Bladder and Pelvic Floor Disorders and obtained one of his brochures and after seeing him speak and reading about him I knew I wanted to make an appointment to meet with him and discuss my situation.
I have not been disappointed. Throughout my treatment I have found Dr. Gopal to be sincerely concerned with my problems, he offered different treatment plans, explained everything and has always been responsive to my concerns and answered any questions I had. When it was obvious I could no longer put off having surgery I knew without a doubt I had made the right choice to have chosen him as my doctor and I have always felt completely secure under his care. He is genuinely concerned with his patient and their well being and it is evident in the way he treats you.
His staff is always very pleasant and helpful if you have any questions or concerns… which is a definite plus.
All I can say is “Thank you Dr. Gopal, I am so glad I found you!”

I am writing to let patients of Dr. Gopal know what a “truly” satisfying experience I had when he operated on me in September of 2011. When I went to his office and he heard my complaints, he gave me an examination and I explained to him in detail just what I had and what could be done about it. By the time he was finished, I had absolutely no unanswered questions. I had to have a hernia repair (pelvis) and pelvic floor reconstruction. The procedure was done at Centra State Medical Center. It went great and I stayed in the hospital two days. I am still seeing Dr. Gopal for follow ups, feeling great… so much better!

I am a 38 year old stay-at-home mother of 3 kids. After my first son was born 13 years ago I experienced a dropped bladder. I was not able to jump, sneeze, run or laugh without having some leaking of urine. Last year, I started exercising heavily and in April of 2011 I suffered a uterine prolapse. I went to see my OBGYN and he recommended I make an appointment with Dr. Manish Gopal, a uro-gynecologist.Dr. Gopal informed me that not only did I have a uterine prolapse but that my bladder and years of constipation had caused my rectum to drop as well. Dr. Gopal advised me that I would need a partial hysterectomy along with a bladder and rectum adjustment.Dr. Gopal spoke to me about a procedure called the da Vinci method and told me that recovery would be much quicker compared to the traditional bikini cut, only 4 to 6 weeks. So after discussing it further with my husband and a few friends of mine that were also patients of Dr. Gopal, I felt it best that we use the da Vinci method.
After surgery, I had some minor discomfort that was easily handled with pain medication. I stayed in the hospital for 2 days and was sent home with pain medication to last me a month, but I only needed it for the first week. I started to feel normal by my second week of recovery.
My whole recovery time was 4 to 6 weeks like Dr. Gopal had said. Sexual intercourse was resumed after my six week checkup, I was told that it would be uncomfortable in the beginning and it sure was, but it has gotten better since. I am three months into my surgery and I feel great, I can run, jump and sneeze with no leakage!
Dr. Gopal is an excellent, caring doctor who took the time to make me feel comfortable at all costs. I highly recommend Dr. Gopal and the da Vinci procedure.
